How one person can change your entire life.
Because that is what true, honest, messy love really is.
Hello, my lovebugssss :)
I hope you are all well today!
I know that I promised I will do weekly newsletters (and I have mostly fulfilled that promise) last week was a no-show on my part because I had A LOT going on. I’m also aware that this is an excuse that I make on most weeks that I miss, but life literally is so. so. busy.
Along with working on my next book, creating content for Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube (my next video will be out this week), my blog and working in admin, marketing and the business side of things in relation to my writing, I also have a part-time job, I try to go to the gym (this has not happened for months), I like to stay healthy and cook fresh meals along with cooking dinner most nights for my family, I babysit my little brother, and. and. and. I am also planning my wedding which is next year.
So, to say that I have a lot on my plate would be an understatement. And for this reason the newsletter gets ignored on more than most weeks —or it has been until recently because I’ve decided to move over to substack and make this a weekly ritual.
One other thing that’s helping me to make this a weekly occurrence, as well as offloading the weight that is on my shoulders so that I can focus on everything else is that one of the many, many responsibilities I have is reducing.
But more on that another time. When I can actually speak about it that is and am not bound by any legal contract that prevents me from mentioning it before I am due to. Exciting. I know.
I am in love, what can I say?
I guess one of the main reasons why my life has done a 360 turn —as well as changed for the better— is the arrival of my incredible fiancé, getting engaged to whom has made me a very busy bee indeed.
I don’t talk much about him —rarely, in fact— having mentioned him just once in the last nearly-4 years that we’ve been together. I know. 4 years.
To many, it may not seem like such a long time but it is huge to me. Because before him I had never been in a relationship, with my longest talking stages lasting a few months-1 year and fading before they could turn into anything special. To those who have read my books will also know that my heartbreak too was a result of a childhood friendship that I shared, rather than a relationship. Although the childhood friendships where you grow together can hurt a lot more —in my case, at least, because I’ve not known anything other than that.
Ivnit —the love of my life— is so, so special. He is one of the gentlest souls I’ve ever met, with the kindest heart (which only melts for me, to be honest) that is brimming with unconditional love. He would go to the ends of the earth if he had to, just to make my life easier, and just knowing that he’s there fills my heart with a warmth of safety.
All I need to do is tell him that I need him, and he will be there.
He’s calm and quiet, but has the vibrant and adrenaline-personality of an extreme sportsman at times, and although he can be so, so, so annoying at times —most men are— having him by my side reassures me that no matter what goes wrong in my life, he will always be there, supporting me.
In fact, just yesterday I got locked in my bathroom at 1.30am (don’t ask) and Ivnit arrived with a sprinter’s speed to let me out. It was so hilarious, if you ask me, but it also reminded me that he’s my go-to person. All I need to do is reach out to him. All I need to do is tell him that I need him, and he will be there.
The right person changes your life forever.
You all might be wondering why I’m telling you this. Why now? You might ask. Why after all these years? Well, the one thing that I’ve always tried to do is be as transparent with you as possible, but this relationship of mine was mine to keep. I wanted it to be as private as possible and until I didn’t let my own family know, I couldn’t let you all know either.
But now that it’s out in the world, I want to share my experiences with you so that I can do what I always do —try to shed light on something very important. And this important thing is as follows: the right person exists, and when they come into your life, it changes for the best.
Of course, there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ person in the categorical sense. But when I say right person I mean your person. The one who is meant to hold your hand and walk with you. The one who is meant to show you that love is easy and calm, love is friendly, warm and adventurous. Love is quiet and patient. Your person exists. The person who will allow you to understand why it didn’t work out with anyone else.
And it might seem too wishy-washy. It might seem like I’m trying to romanticise relationships or finding ‘the one’. Because by no means are relationships easy. But they aren’t devastatingly hard either. #
Your ability to love and receive love does not end with one heartbreak.
If you’re someone who has or is going through heartbreak and has given up on finding love altogether —that is fine, don’t force yourself to find someone. Your happiness does not depend on it. But if you’re someone who has found a rhythm in being single, someone who is happy in themselves and is ready for a new adventure —get back out there and give someone new a chance. Your ability to love does not end with one broken relationship, one heartbreak or the fear of getting hurt again.
