The stuff that you read about online in blogs and journals that promise you that if you go on a daily walk, work out 3 times a week and drink lots of water then you’re headed towards living your best life.
And I’m not saying that you aren’t headed that way.
I’m not saying that those self-care practices aren’t important, or effective in bringing about a positive change in your life. But I’m saying that they aren’t the most effective. I’m saying that they only work when you’ve done the hard, painful stuff. The stuff that demands you look at your reflection in the mirror and face your demons. The stuff that puts you in a difficult spot and forces you to make decisions that will help you. The stuff that demands you put yourself first when it matters but you put others first when they need it. The stuff that shows you that you can be wrong too, and in many ways, and that’s okay.
